Calm & Collected

Hollybrooke Romeo (Romeo).  14.3h 5 year old Thoroughbred x New Forest Gelding.  This little chap was purchased as a 5 month old colt and spent the first 3 years of his life learning how to behave.  Romeo was backed as a rising 4 year old and jumped on line then under saddle as a 4 year old.  Romeo is an extremely exciting prospect being athletic and quick to learn.  Romeo has been competing at Riding Club level and done a number of unaffiliated ODE's proving bold and clever with numerous placings throughout the year and a wonderful 1st at the ODE at Moreton Morrell finishing on his dressage score of 28.  Romeo will be aiming at British Eventing in 2017.

Wot a Wotsit (Wotsit) 15.2h 4 year old bred by Margaret Witt and given to me as a 2 year old when Margaret was diagnosed with cancer and she wanted to be assured of his future.  Having joined the team at Calm and Collected Wotsit was backed as a rising 4 year old and underwent ground training and general desensitisation/habituation.  This year Wotsit has been introduced in hand to jumps and obstacles following which he has started jumping under saddle with a fantastic 3rd place in his first pairs hunter trial.  Wotsit has attended one ODE this year where he was rather overwhelmed by the warm up area.  We are working on this element of his training with a view to starting his eventing career in 2017 and in the meantime will be getting out to dressage, show jumping and arena eventing along with general schooling.

Alderbed (Dalton) is a 10 year old 15.2hh thoroughbred who we purchased straight out of racing as a 3 year old.  He had locking stifles and was depressed and unwilling.  Despite continual monitoring and training problems occurred during fittening and whilst no visible signs were obvious on veterinary inspection his performance remained erratic.  Video footage freeze framed and reviewed gave clear postural indicators of pain.  Following x-rays Dalton was positively diagnosed with Kissing Spine.  The operation has been a complete success as has his physiotherapy. However following his return to work further problems became apparent with a recurring sacro-iliac strain and deep foot pathology.  On the grounds that we felt he had been through enough we decided to retire Dalton who will remain with us for life and is  used in the Calm and Collected team to teach handling techniques and work with people with confidence issues.

Whispering Sands (Dezzi) 20 year old 15.1hh pure bred arabian previously my eldest daughters hack and general allrounder who we have owned since a 2 year old.  Dezzi came to me in October 2012  when my daughter gave up riding to have a baby proving that it's never too late to learn.  Show Jumping and Cross Country was initially very scarey but he got to grips with this being placed 14th at MKEC 3DE Sept 2013 and 2nd at Eydon Hunter Trial October 2013. 2nd in team event Festival of the Horse 2014 and doing brilliantly at dressage scoring 8's for his walk!  Dezzi retired from all jumping in 2016 and is now used for demonstrations in understanding equine language, long reining, lunging, handling techniques.  Dezzi also accompanies youngstock on their first hacking expeditions and is perfect for anyone who needs to overcome their nerves around horses.
